The American Society of Travel Advisors (ASTA) has introduced a novel educational program centered around inclusive tourism. Created in collaboration with Accessible Travel Solutions, this course is part of the elective track for ASTA’s Verified Travel Advisor (VTA) initiative.
This educational offering emphasizes a marginalized – yet rapidly expanding – segment of the travel market, equipping advisors with actionable resources to improve service for travelers living with disabilities. It encompasses advice on acknowledging accessibility obligations, crafting inclusive experiences, and executing tactics that may ultimately boost advisors’ businesses by catering to this emerging demographic of travelers.
“This program showcases ASTA’s dedication to preparing travel advisors to assist every traveler with expertise and assurance,” remarked Alvin Adriano, the director of education at ASTA. “Accessible tourism is not merely a niche market. It represents an essential and expanding part of our field. By supplying practical, hands-on training, we are enabling advisors to develop truly inclusive travel opportunities while broadening their business prospects.”
“Travel advisors aim to effectively assist each client, but understanding accessibility can seem daunting without proper guidance,” added John Sage, CEO of Accessible Travel Solutions. “This course provides advisors with practical instruments and straightforward frameworks, empowering them to confidently aid travelers with disabilities and foster genuinely inclusive travel experiences.”
