Silversea Cruises has revealed the interiors of its new 150-room establishment, The Cormorant at 55 South, located in Puerto Willimas, Chile. Scheduled to open its doors in October 2026, this hotel is set to be a fundamental part of the brand’s Antarctica Fly/Cruise initiative.
“The Cormorant at 55 South marks an exhilarating new phase for Silversea, enhancing our dedication to luxurious travel in Antarctica,” stated Bert Hernandez, president of Silversea. “This distinctive venue will provide our guests with the same exceptional comfort and tailored service as they experience on our vessels and will immerse them in the vibrant culture, customs, and stunning landscapes of the area. The interiors are meticulously crafted to embody the essence of this remarkable location.”
The public areas of The Cormorant are created to encourage relaxation and introspection, combining inviting spaces with wide-reaching sights.
The Fireplace Lounge
The fireplace lounge will act as a refuge, featuring an array of sumptuous seating, premium wines, and signature drinks. Expansive windows offer sweeping views of the Patagonian scenery, allowing guests to savor the cozy atmosphere provided by this exceptional fireplace.
Latitude 55

At The Cormorant at 55 South, guests will experience a culinary journey inspired by Chilean tastes, featuring a dining space that provides a warm ambiance along with menus that honor the regional ingredients and customs. Latitude 55 – named due to its proximity to the 55th parallel south – presents menus that combine local favorites with chef-driven innovations. During the evening, the restaurant transforms into a lively family-style setting perfect for sharing tales of expeditions and excitement about the forthcoming travel.
Bar Sur
Bar Sur will function as the communal center of The Cormorant, serving teas and light snacks in the daytime and a selection of wines and spirits at night – all reflecting local flavors. Events will include wine tastings that highlight Patagonia’s winemaking heritage and an interactive cocktail workshop focused on Chilean Pisco.
Unchartered
To honor their stay at the world’s southernmost hotel, guests can explore Unchartered, the boutique of The Cormorant. Here, items crafted by local artisans and vital expedition gear will serve as enduring reminders of their experience.
Guest Rooms

The Cormorant’s 150 guest accommodations are carefully designed, encouraging guests to rejuvenate before or after their journey. Rooms feature either views of the forest or vistas of the Beagle Channel, immersing guests in the local scenery that characterizes the area. To enhance this connection, each room will include handcrafted items by Chilean artisans, providing a distinctive element that reflects local and regional heritage.
Silversea’s Antarctica Fly/Cruise itineraries enable guests to bypass the Drake Passage, including a hotel stay in Santiago, followed by a direct charter flight to Puerto Williams, where visitors enjoy a one-night accommodation at The Cormorant prior to continuing to King George Island for boarding. Upon return, guests will again stay overnight at the hotel before heading back to Santiago.
There will also be chances for guests to discover the natural wonders of Puerto Williams through activities like nature walks, hiking, kayaking, and wildlife observation, further enriching their expedition experience. The hotel will operate seasonally from October to March, with a dedicated team trained in The Silversea Way.
