The Intrepid Foundation, which serves as the charitable branch of the small group travel company Intrepid Travel, has successfully achieved registration as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization — a significant step in the foundation’s mission to create a beneficial influence globally.
This classification provides The Intrepid Foundation with tax-exempt status, allowing contributions from U.S. individuals to be tax-deductible. This enhances the nonprofit’s role as a conduit for travelers and travel consultants to contribute directly to the communities they visit.
Established in 2002, The Intrepid Foundation has allocated over $14 million to more than 160 partner entities across the globe. The nonprofit has championed various causes, encompassing initiatives for sustainability, advocacy for gender equality, and various projects aimed at community development, collaborating with vetted NGOs to ensure tangible benefits for the regions visited by travelers.
This announcement comes on the heels of Intrepid Travel’s commitment to bolster Indigenous tourism in Canada with a CAD $500,000 investment, to be distributed over a span of five years.
“Today’s travelers seek more than just an outstanding itinerary; they desire that their journeys hold significance,” remarked Leigh Barnes, president of the Americas at Intrepid Travel and chair of the board for The Intrepid Foundation U.S. “As advisors strive to differentiate themselves in a saturated market, purpose and impact are becoming integral to the sales dialogue. This offers them a reliable method to link exceptional travel experiences with meaningful change.”
