Indian airlines are gradually reinstating services to the Gulf following a period of travel interruptions associated with the ongoing tensions in certain West Asian regions.

Numerous passengers have been impacted after various nations either restricted or completely closed their airspace. Consequently, airlines had to cancel or reroute flights, resulting in many travelers being stranded in the area.

In response, Indian officials are working to normalize operations by increasing flights between India and prominent Gulf locations.

Over 1,600 Flights Cancelled So Far

The Indian Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) has reported that the disruptions have caused a significant number of flight cancellations.

As of now:

  • 1,221 flights operated by Indian airlines have been canceled
  • 388 flights operated by international airlines have also been canceled

Many of these cancellations occurred on busy routes connecting India and the Gulf, which are crucial for workers, business travelers, and families.

58 Flights Planned Between India and the Gulf

In an effort to assist passengers who are waiting, Indian airlines will increase flight offerings on March 4, 2026. A total of 58 flights are scheduled between India and key Gulf locations.

The detailed itinerary includes:

  • 30 flights by IndiGo
  • 23 flights by Air India and Air India Express
  • Remaining flights operated by other Indian airlines

These operations will incorporate standard services as well as additional flights to alleviate the backlog of passengers.

24 Flights Already Operated Earlier

Additionally, the Ministry confirmed that 24 flights were conducted on March 3 by Indian airlines to assist in transporting stranded passengers.

These flights aimed to restore connectivity as airlines modified their routes and schedules due to airspace restrictions in several areas of West Asia.

Airlines Using Alternative Flight Routes

Given that certain airspaces remain inaccessible, airlines are modifying their flight trajectories to evade sensitive regions.

This adjustment entails that many long-haul flights are now opting for lengthy alternate pathways, potentially extending travel durations. Airlines are progressively revising their schedules as circumstances develop.

Officials emphasize that these adjustments are being executed with caution to ensure the safety of passengers while recommencing operations.

Passengers Advised to Check Flight Status

Authorities are advising all travelers to verify their flight details before heading to the airport.

Flight schedules might still be subject to change depending on how the situation regarding airspace progresses. Additionally, passengers are encouraged to:

  • Consult updates directly with their airline
  • Observe announcements from official governmental entities
  • Steer clear of relying on unverified social media information

As the situation continues to evolve, further modifications to flight schedules are anticipated in the forthcoming days. Airlines are likely to keep recalibrating their operations until standard routes over West Asia are fully reinstated.
