Should you have had plans for a spontaneous visit to Pakistan, here is an important update.

Pakistan has discreetly ceased the issuance of visas on arrival. Additionally, the option for “Visa Before Arrival” has also been suspended. This was the expedited process that numerous travelers relied upon for quick approval within one to two days.

Currently, there has been no formal declaration regarding this situation. Thus, it remains uncertain whether this is a temporary adjustment or a permanent policy change.

No More Last-Minute Entry Options

Up until recently, travelers from numerous nations had two relatively convenient methods:

  • Visa on arrival upon landing at the airport
  • Visa Prior to Arrival with expedited online approval

Both options are no longer available.

This essentially signifies a straightforward fact: you can no longer depend on swift approvals. If you do not possess a visa already, boarding your flight will not be possible.

e-Visa Is Now the Sole Option

Presently, all individuals requiring a visa must apply via Pakistan’s standard e-Visa system. But there’s a catch.

  • Estimated processing time is approximately 20 working days
  • Currently, no expedited or urgent service is offered
  • Approval is not assured, hence timing is crucial

This marks a significant shift from the prior one to two-day processing time.

How to File for a Pakistan eVisa

If you’re organizing a trip, here is the easiest way to get your visa arranged.

1) File Application Online: Visit Pakistan’s official eVisa website and create a user account. Enter your details and upload necessary documents like your passport and a photograph.

2) Remit the Visa Fee: Fees vary based on nationality and visa category, but generally for most travelers:

  • Tourist eVisa: around $20 to $60
  • Business visas may incur higher costs

3) Await Processing:

  • Standard processing timeframe is approximately 20 working days
  • No expedited options available at this time

4) Acquire Your eVisa: Upon approval, the visa will be sent to you via email. Print a copy and have it with you when traveling.

Key Information to Keep in Mind

  • Validity: Typically up to 90 days (single entry in most instances)
  • Extension: Possible from داخل Pakistan, pending approval
  • Documents Required: Passport (valid for a minimum of 6 months), photo, travel itinerary, and sometimes a hotel reservation

Note: It is advisable to apply at least 3–4 weeks ahead of your travel date to prevent any last-minute pressures.

Plan Ahead or Face Delays

If traveling to Pakistan is on your agenda, planning in advance is now crucial. Initiate your visa application well ahead of time, ideally a month before your departure. This gives you enough leeway for delays or additional document requests.

Considerations for Travelers

  • Confirm your eligibility prior to applying
  • Have all documentation prepared to minimize delays
  • Avoid purchasing non-refundable tickets before your visa clearance
  • Stay updated, as regulations may change unexpectedly

Final Remarks

There has been no explanation from Pakistan regarding the suspension of these options, nor is there a timeline for their anticipated reinstatement.

Currently, journeying remains possible, albeit not on a whim. If you’re planning a visit, ensure you allocate enough time. In this scenario, planning in advance is not merely recommended; it is imperative.
