Denmark has recently refreshed its Positive Lists for in-demand positions. This update took effect on January 1, 2026. If you’re a qualified worker or recent graduate considering relocating, this could be an advantage. The lists are designed to address shortages in the workforce, making it more straightforward for expatriates to obtain work and residency permits.

Regarding this modification:

  • The Positive List for Individuals with a Higher Education now features approximately 180 jobs.
  • The Positive List for Skilled Labor contains nearly 54 jobs.

These statistics have altered slightly from previously reported figures as officials corrected minor mistakes following the January 1 announcement.

What Are Positive Lists?

Positive Lists serve as formal inventories of the professions Denmark is currently in need of. They are divided into two categories: one for individuals with higher education (such as degrees) and the other for skilled trades.

These inventories undergo updates biannually to reflect existing shortages. If your profession appears on the list, you become eligible for a special Positive List permit. This permit enables you to reside and work in Denmark without the typical requirement of proving that no local candidates are available for the position.

Modifications to the Higher Education Positive List

This roster has seen a decrease from 187 to 180 jobs. Some positions were removed to align with evolving demands, but new ones have emerged as well. Significant new inclusions:

  • Business Intelligence Manager
  • Movie, TV and Animation Designer
  • Communication Officer

These additions indicate a rise in technology, media, and data positions. Denmark aims to attract professionals capable of analyzing data, producing content, or managing communications in a digital landscape.

Comprehensive List of Careers on the Positive List (as of Jan 1, 2026)

Below is the full lineup of 180 jobs. These are categorized loosely by sector for convenient review:

The distributions comprise over 25 IT positions, more than 30 in engineering/science, exceeding 20 in health, with the remainder in business/media/education. Revisions to the Skilled Work Positive List

The skilled labor list has reduced from 65 to 54 positions. This list focuses on practical trades where there is a shortage of local talent in Denmark.

Noteworthy adjustments: Some roles in construction and manufacturing were omitted, but there still remain significant gaps in welding, machining, and healthcare support.

Implications for Your Move to Denmark

These adjustments signify Denmark’s emphasis on attracting tech-oriented graduates and dependable tradespeople. Though the number of positions has decreased slightly, making the competition potentially fiercer, the inclusion of creative fields like animation design indicates a growth surge.

If your occupation aligns with the list, consider applying promptly through SIRI (Denmark’s immigration authority). Salaries are competitive, frequently exceeding 500,000 DKK annually for listed positions, and you will enjoy the bike-friendly cities, cozy culture, and balanced work-life environment.

Are you preparing for a job search in Scandinavia? These lists position Denmark as one of the most welcoming places in Europe for skilled immigrants.
