Celestyal, which had earlier announced the cancellation of the March 2 voyage of Celestyal Journey, has now scrapped all forthcoming “Desert Days” sailings for this year including the departures on March 7, 9, 14, and 16.
The cancellations are a result of the U.S. State Department elevating the Travel Advisory level for all countries on Journey’s route to Level 3: Reconsider Travel. The affected nations include the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Qatar.
“We are continuously monitoring the situation in the Middle East and maintain regular communication with appropriate authorities. Throughout this time, the safety and welfare of our passengers and crew have been and will remain our top priority,” the company stated in an announcement.
Passengers who were scheduled to sail on the canceled itineraries will have the choice between a complete refund or a credit for a future cruise.
With the Arabian Gulf season for both Celestyal Journey and Celestyal Discovery now concluded, the cruise line intends to relocate its vessels back to Athens to commence its planned Mediterranean season. Nevertheless, given that the Strait of Hormuz is currently closed, it remains uncertain when the ships will be able to reposition.
“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our guests and partners for their understanding and patience amidst this changing situation,” added the company.
