The small-ship operator Alaskan Dream Cruises, which is owned by Alaskans, has abruptly ceased all operations and canceled upcoming cruises.

As reported by The Silicon Review, the firm pointed to “overwhelming financial challenges” as the cause behind the halt in services. These challenges included increasing operational expenses, competitive pressures, and a tough recovery period following the pandemic.

In what it termed a “sincere goodbye,” the company stated on its website: “Since our inception in 2011, we have been honored to showcase the marvels of Alaska and our rich Alaska Native heritage to amazing guests from all over the world. It has been equally fulfilling to collaborate with remarkable communities, partners, and crew members.”

In a message shared with TMR, the organization expressed:

“This choice signifies a strategic refocusing of the company’s operations to bolster its primary activities and secure long-lasting viability. The firm is in direct communication with all patrons who have future reservations and is actively managing refunds. Owner Jamey Cagle remarked: ‘This decision was calculated and essential. After a thorough assessment of our long-term goals, we concluded that ending cruise operations enables us to judiciously direct our resources to areas where they can have the most significant effect.’”

Alaskan Dream Cruises managed four vessels: the Chichagof Dream, Baranof Dream, Admiralty Dream, and Alaskan Dream.

“I believe I can voice the sentiments of everyone in the Alaska tourism sector by stating that the shutdown of Alaskan Dream Cruises is a significant loss,” conveyed Ruth Rosewarne Kimerer, the marketing and brand strategy director of the Alaska Travel Industry Association. “As the sole Indigenous-owned cruise line, they provided a distinctive experience for travelers to Alaska. Fortunately, its sister enterprise, Allen Marine Tours, will keep operating shore excursions throughout Southeast Alaska, allowing travelers to continue supporting this Alaska Native, family-owned company.”

Travel advisors with impacted clients have been directly informed about the next steps and refund procedures. Advisors may also contact info@alaskandreamcruises.com or call (855) 747-8100 for further assistance.

Alaskan Dream Cruises was under the ownership of the Alaska Native-affiliated company Allen Marine, which is predominantly recognized for its local tour operations in Juneau, Ketchikan, and Sitka. This particular segment of the enterprise remains intact.
