This morning, cancellations are accumulating at Toronto Pearson International (YYZ) as the area is covered in snow and freezing rain.
As reported by FlightAware, over 15% of flights that were slated to leave Pearson on Wednesday morning have been canceled as of 7 a.m. EST. Similarly, 15% of incoming flights are also facing cancellations.
A large number of those affected include Air Canada flights. The airline has announced a waiver for change fees for all departures from Toronto Pearson on Wednesday, enabling travelers to modify their arrangements without any charges, subject to availability. Additionally, a similar waiver has been put in place for Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ), which is undergoing comparable disruptions.
Outside of Toronto, Air Canadaās travel forecast for Wednesday indicates that snow is creating problems in Regina (YQR), Saskatoon (YXE), St. Johnās (YYT), and Winnipeg (YWG).
WestJet, facing similar impacts on its Wednesday itinerary, has established a waiver for flights until Thursday, Feb. 19, affecting all of its Southern Ontario airports. This waiver permits passengers to change their flights without incurring fees, as long as the same destinations and classes are retained.
According to Environment Canada, Toronto is predicted to experience either freezing rain or snow for the next three days, including Wednesday.
