Oceania Cruises commemorated the official commencement of the construction of its innovative vessel, Oceania Sonata, during a keel laying ceremony held at the Fincantieri shipyard located in Marghera, Italy.
Present at the occasion were Harry Sommer, the president and CEO of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd (NCLH); Jason Montague, the chief luxury officer of Oceania Cruises; Patrik Dahlgren, the executive vice president and chief vessel operations and newbuild officer at NCLH; and Franco Semeraro, chief experience officer at Oceania Cruises, accompanied by key leaders from Fincantieri.
“Oceania Sonata signifies the next evolution in our journey of elevating luxury travel, and we are thrilled to commemorate this milestone as we solidify our standing in the sector,” stated Montague. “This achievement stems from the remarkable commitment and knowledge of the Fincantieri team – shipbuilders, engineers, designers, and numerous others whose talent and enthusiasm bring our vision to life.”
Scheduled to set sail on its inaugural journey in August 2027, Oceania Sonata will be succeeded by three sister ships: Oceania Arietta, expected to join the fleet in 2029, and two unnamed vessels of the Sonata class set for launch in 2032 and 2035.
With a weight of 86,000 tons and a capacity for just 1,390 guests, Oceania Sonata will provide an unparalleled sense of space and exclusivity. One-third of all guest accommodations will consist of suites, featuring four new two-bedroom Owner’s Suites, along with two entirely new categories: the Horizon Suites and the Penthouse Deluxe Suites.
Additionally, Oceania Sonata will unveil two fresh culinary adventures onboard: La Table par Maîtres Cuisiniers de France and Nikkei Kitchen, which will focus on blending the flavors of Peru with Japanese culinary techniques and tastes.
