Syria has revised its visa pricing for foreign travelers aiming to enter the nation based on their country of origin.
In its announcement, the Syrian Ministry of Interior emphasized that the updated fees correspond to diplomatic and bilateral ties, indicating that the system is more favorable for individuals from nations with which Libya maintains stronger relations, as reported by VisaGuide.World.
The Ministry's declaration mentioned that passport holders from Lebanon, Jordan, Mauritania, and Malaysia are exempt from paying the visa fee and can remain in the country for a period of up to six months.
Conversely, there are changes in visa pricing for citizens of other nations. According to the new regulations, nationals from Algeria, Morocco, Sudan, Yemen, and China are required to pay a $40 visa fee, the lowest fee compared to others.
Libyan and Russian nationals will now need to pay a $75 visa fee for short visits to Syria, while citizens of Bahrain, Somalia, and EU countries will incur a slightly higher charge of $125 compared to the aforementioned nationalities.
Increased Fees for Other Citizens
The fees are even steeper for individuals from the remaining classified nations. The Ministry has stated that nationals from Egypt, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Türkiye, and Canada now face a fee of $150, as explained by Shafaq News.
Additionally, the visa fees have also been modified for citizens of Iraq, the UAE, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand, who now must provide a $250 payment for their visitor visa.
Finally, the highest fee is set for U.S. passport holders. The Ministry has clarified that those from the U.S. need to pay a $300 visa fee.
For individuals hailing from unclassified nations, a fee of $100 is applicable for a 15-day visa, or alternatively, a $25 fee for a three-day transit visa.
Syria Introduced Electronic Visa in 2024
To attract a greater number of international visitors and streamline the visa application process, the Syrian government introduced the electronic visa in May of the previous year.
The electronic visas for entry into Syria have been available since May 1, 2024, and applicants are required to visit a Syrian embassy or consulate to obtain this document.
Commenting on this development, economic analyst Firas Shaabo remarked that the implementation of the electronic visa will substantially influence the economy of the country, enhancing its treasury through increased tourism revenue.
