Mark Tamis, the president of Seabourn, is taking on an additional leadership position, where he will be responsible for guest experience and product development (GEPD) for both Seabourn and Holland America Line. He will start managing GEPD for Seabourn right away, with plans to extend this role to Holland America in the near future.
This broadened responsibility arises from the announcement of Michael Smith, the senior vice president of guest experience and product development, who revealed his retirement, effective May 1, 2026, after a committed career focusing on enriching the guest experience and product strategy for both HAL and Seabourn.
Tamis became part of the Seabourn team in November 2024 and brings over thirty years of expertise in food, beverage, and guest operations in the cruise and luxury hospitality industries. His previous experience includes senior roles at Carnival Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean, and Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts.
“As Michael transitions, Mark’s knowledge and leadership approach will enable us to maintain our commitment to delivering outstanding service, culinary brilliance, and remarkable entertainment that our guests anticipate,” stated Beth Bodensteiner, president of Holland America Line.
Smith will hand over his duties over the upcoming months while continuing as a consultant for ship refurbishments thereafter. Additionally, the company has elevated Michael Stendebach to senior vice president of food, beverage, and rooms division for both Holland America and Seabourn. Stendebach has played a key role in the team’s achievements since joining Holland America four years ago, after having spent over a decade in similar positions within Carnival Corporation.
“I am genuinely thrilled to embrace this expanded position while still acting as president of Seabourn,” remarked Tamis. “It is a privilege to lead Seabourn, and my dedication to this role remains steadfast. I am eager to leverage my extensive experience in luxury hospitality, guest operations, and food & beverage to enhance the unique guest experience cultures of both Holland America Line and Seabourn.”
